Boat trip on the Vézère River

40 minutes of relaxation, between nature and history

From June 18 to September 20, 2026

Terrasson, the first town in Dordogne crossed by the Vézère River through its very centre, welcomes you aboard “Le Vézère”, a covered boat with 34 seats.

Alternating commentary and moments of pure tranquillity, your guide will take you back in time and along the river’s course, telling you the story of the Vézère and the traditional barge boatmen.

On board the barge “Le Vézère”, you will discover how economic prosperity in the Périgord region was built around the river and thanks to it. The Terrasson area once produced table wine in abundance before the great phylloxera crisis. The last barge ceased operating in Terrasson in 1937 because of competition from the railway.

This discovery cruise will also give you a fresh perspective on the old town and on the natural heritage of the Vézère. You will then want only one thing: to explore the ramparts, streets and alleyways… and the Gardens of the Imagination.
